Childrens Book

Travis Goes To School on Wheels is a children s book I wrote about a year ago,  but yet to find a publisher.   I wrote this book as an example of the unique experience I had when I was put in a so-called “normal” school, from a school for the disabled. This story closely resembles what I experienced, it has its funny parts, also it shows the struggles that a physically challenged individual must face. I wrote this story to educate children as well. I based the main character on myself, and some of the major obstacles and situations I faced as one of the only people with a disability in my school.

When I was writing this book, I did not want the main character to be pitied or looked upon as different. I want to show that; in time, even grade school children can learn to appreciate people who are different than themselves. Once they see the difficulties disabled children face, they will become more empathetic and accepting. You will see the total change in the mindset of not only “Travis”, the main character, but all the other characters as well. In the end not only is Travis accepted by his peers, he is looked up to because they see how much effort it takes him to accomplish just the simplest tasks that they always took for granted.

If I had to sum up the message of “Travis Goes to School on Wheels, “in seven words I would say “It’s not the Disability, It’s the Ability.”  Anyone who knows a publisher who might be interested please contact me!

Thanks.
