To whom it may concern,
My name is Jason Pisano; I’m 39 years old from West Warwick, Rhode Island. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Journalism; I worked as a freelance journalist for 11 years. I am also a disabled wheelchair athlete and a motivational speaker. I have completed 51 marathons to date, captured two world titles at the 2005 Cerebral Palsy Games, was a Torch Bearer for the 1996 Olympic Games, and inducted into the New England Wheelchair Athletic Hall of Fame.
Now that I have told you of most of my accomplishments, let me tell you about all of the challenges I face each day of my life. I am confined to a wheelchair, have no use of my arms, and I have a severe speech impediment. I need assistance with almost everything I do such as bathing, eating, going to the bathroom or even just getting out of bed. Although I am severely disabled this has not stopped me from living a very full and fast paced life. I have seen and accomplished more in the 38 years that I have been alive than most have in their entire lifetime.
I was motivated to write my autobiography after seeing the movie “My Left Foot. “. “My Left Foot” is about an Irish man, Christy Brown, who also had cerebral palsy. The major similarity between Christy Brown and me is that we each use the left foot to accomplish tasks for which other people would use their two hands, while our stories differ in that Christy Brown was an exceptional artist and my abilities lie in athletics and writing. Although there are many similarities between Mr. Brown and myself, we grew up in different eras, thus I feel fortunate enough to have many more services and opportunities presented to me.
My story is not a sad one; it’s one of overcoming the odds. I feel telling my story will serve to motivate people to get out there and live life to the fullest because this is the only chance you have. You will see in this book that I am not perfect, but who is? This is the life of Jason Pisano uncut.
